GO Far Niners Event, Sep 99

The highlight of the day was the re-dedication of the Chapter Trophy Case, originally gifted by Fall 66, and recently restored by Summer 99. Alumnus Mike Stieger (F66) donated the $200 necessary to refurbish the Case. Mike lives in Chicago and was unable to attend, but his pledge brother, Joe Mannina (F66) was on hand to accept the restored Trophy Case on behalf of the Fall 66 class. Frank Soria (Summer 99) led the restoration effort which involved all members of the Summer 99 ("American Pie")class. The restoration includs a new brass plaque honoring those involved, especially Brother Stieger. (Contrary to rumor, a beer bottle was NOT broken over the case to "christen" it.....at least not on purpose!)

Special thanks to Greg Harrington (F79), who donated $150 to the GO Gazette cause. Also thanks to Bill Christensen for helping with the set up of the event, and to Actives Tyler Clegg, Dave Vasquez, Ryan McCaffery, Mark Nowydowr, Chad Olis and Travis Roper, along with alumnus Steve Lucero, who helped with phone calls in late August for this event. Dennis Blake (F68) again helped by making his phones available for calling the alumni.

Visiting the Phi Tau house for the first time in many years was Vic Hausmaniger (Fall 62), who serves on the CSUF School of  Business Administration (SBAE) Board of Advisors, who met up with Rob Blayden (F62) for the first time in many years. Many parents of actives and incoming Associates were in attendence, and positive comments were heard throughout the day on how impressed they were with the alumni involvement in the Chapter. Cassie Gorman, a sophmore at UCSD, made a bigger impression on the actives than her alumni dad, Tom (F69). Tom was last seen trying to talk to his daughter from outside a ring of about a dozen actives. (Watch for coverage in the LA Times, where Tom is a writer.....there was  an LA Times photographer present, getting pictures for an upcoming article in the Orange County section).

Members of Alpha Delta Pi soroity paid a visit during the event, bringing brownies for all, and a donation of a microwave oven for the kitchen. The afternoon concluded with a pinning ceremony for 11 Associtates, the first members of the Fall 99 Associate Class, with many of their parents looking on..
